Landmine Dog Oath
The objective of establishing the non-profit Canadian Landmine Detection Dogs Society is to purchase and train selected dogs to detect landmines and, upon completion of such training, provide said dogs to countries in need of this specialized service. Indigenous peoples will be trained to use the detection dogs to find and remove landmines from their countries soil in order to ensure a safe recovery of land for its designated purpose, i.e. farming, travel, residential occupation, schooling, or simply pleasure.

The Canadian Landmine Detection Dogs Society, through the establishment of a Canadian centre of excellence for Mine Detection Dogs, will provide a rapid deployment capability for MDDs in support of international humanitarian demining.

This capacity will be highly successful as it addresses the issue of making MDDs available when required while allowing demining organizations to focus on technical performance, cost and schedule.

As a collateral benefit, it will provide the Canadian public with a heightened awareness of the cause of International Humanitarian demining.

With the world facing ongoing concerns over the proliferation of personnel landmines, we as Canadians are faced with the hard decision as to where our financial, intellectual and emotional resources can be best channelled to effect the greatest good in support of this most important cause.
